The Organization

Afrika Tikkun was founded in 1994 and currently has 5 community centers in South Africa. In these community centers, located in townships, children from 2-18 years old are being facilitated in their need for nutrition, education, health and personal growth. Furthermore, there are several partnerships with ECDs (Early Childhood Development centers) in the same communities. This approach enables Afrika Tikkun to multiply their impact on society.

Afrika Tikkun Netherlands (ATNL) is a Dutch foundation that supports Afrika Tikkun South Afrika (ATSA) by raising funds via Dutch partners for core programs and special projects. The Dutch fundraising office has been active since 2020 and was founded to support Afrika Tikkun next to the valuable support partners in the core country of South Africa. Because of the long history between South Africa and The Netherlands throughout the last four centuries and the many initiatives and active relationships between the two countries, The Netherlands has the potential to become a valuable support market for Afrika Tikkun.

The position

After the first three start-up years, the board of ATNL has the ambition to take the foundation to the next level and to increase the impact and contribution of ATNL. Therefore, the board has decided to add a senior fundraiser to the Dutch team. This crucial step will facilitate the growth and impact, due to a more professional way of working. A more dedicated board, together with the expertise and network of a senior fundraiser, will ensure a growing added value to ATSA.

We are looking for a committed and inspirational senior fundraiser to lead the fundraising activities in the Dutch market to strengthen the financial support base for Afrika Tikkun projects and operations in South Africa. This person will develop and implement the fundraising strategy for Afrika Tikkun The Netherlands. The fundraiser is accountable to the Board of ATNL and will work closely with ATSA's fundraising department.

Key Responsibilities

• Strategy and Fundraising:

Develop and implement a fundraising strategy for Afrika Tikkun NL, which meets goals agreed upon with ATNL Board, defining segments, creating relevant focus.

Periodically evaluate progress and adjust efforts and resources accordingly, in close alignment with governance bodies: ATNL Board and ATSA fundraising team.

• Partnering:

Align with Afrika Tikkun colleagues in South Africa about fundraising needs and develop partnerships as appropriate.Maintain relationships with existing donors and create relationships with (potential) new donors in the Netherlands.

• Finances:

Create and monitor the annual budget for fundraising activities and ensure the cost-effectiveness of activities.

• Accountability:

Account for activities to the board of ATNL by regular interaction and adequate oral and/or written reporting.

• Fully aligned with Afrika Tikkun’s mission and values
• Purpose-driven, making a difference for other people, based on life experiences
• Minimum of 5 years of NGO fundraising experience in the Dutch market, with a proven track record, is a must, international NGO fundraising experience is a benefit
• Entrepreneurial mindset
• Experience in and affinity with multicultural environments
• Works well in a team and can demonstrate experience working with partners
• Strong in self-awareness and self-reflection, willingness to learn
• Team player, explicitly interacting with NGO board members
• NGO governance conscious
• Excellent written and oral communication in Dutch and English

• Strong project management skills
• Experience in budgeting and monitoring finance performance of projects
• Living and working in the Netherlands
