Not to brag, but nearly 4,000 organizations worldwide, including KLM, Medtronic, Merck, and Philips, rely on Mendix to build web and mobile applications. Thousands of our customers use our platform to delight their clients and empower their employees. It’s no surprise that we’re a recognized Leader by Gartner and Forrester in a red-hot market expected to exceed $21 billion by 2022. Ok, maybe we did want to brag a little. But we’re proud of what we’ve accomplishedandwe’re humble enough to admit that we need you to make us even more effective.
Are you dreaming about being the next Erika Hall, Elizabeth Churchill or Jan Chipchase? Are you passionate about identifying and articulating user motivations, wants, needs, and pain points, using appropriate and creative research methods? Do you thrive in sharing these insights in a collaborative environment, with design, data, development, and customer teams? Are you enthusiastic about translating insights into action and ultimately, user-friendly products?Do you have a proven track record in a research function in a software development context? We are looking for a senior user experience researcher to join our growing research team.
About AppDevYour work will enable Mendix to take the developer experience of our products to the next level. Your work will be focussed on the initiatives within the AppDev unit, the biggest Ramp;D unit, which is at the heart of our products (with Mendix Studio amp; Studio Pro, the core tools for Mendix developers). This Unit's ultimate goal is to make Mendix Studio and Studio Pro the most-loved low-code Integrated Development Environments in the world. In this Unit, you will work with designers and product managers in the Frontend teams, the Logic teams, the Mendix Assist team, and the Studio and the Studio Pro Core teams.
About the Design teamThe Design team is a distributed discipline across several units in Boston, Pune, Shanghai and Rotterdam, with many disciplines. From user experience research and service design to brand and product design, the Mendix design team is filled with creatives focused on elevating the user experience across our products. The team is always exploring new ways to be creative and tinkering with new technologies or techniques. We believe that cross-unit and cross-disciplinary collaboration is the key to our success.
About the User Experience Research team:User Experience Research is a growing subdiscipline, part of the Product Design Team (in the Ramp;D department). In the past two years we have grown from no researchers, to currently 9 research specialists, now also including a Research Operations Specialist. The User Experience Researchers work with one of the Ramp;D units (in this case the AppDev unit), or from the central research team. To discuss anything relevant to User Experience Researchers, we have a bi-weekly team meeting. The User Experience Research Team is also driving the User Insights Guild, where we meet with Product Analysts, Service Designers, and anyone else interested in our work and insights. Our research toolset contains SurveyMonkey, Lookback and Dovetail, but of course we also use tools like Zoom, Miro and Dropbox Paper when planning and conducting our research.
ResponsibilitiesAs a Senior User Experience Researcher with the AppDev unit, you explore drivers and barriers contributing to the user experience of Mendix developers, and enable user centric and strategic design decisions.

This means you:
  • Investigate and prioritize relevant research topics for the AppDev unit. Based on company and unit level priorities, ongoing alignment with product managers, product designers and service designers, and your own proactive suggestions, you create and own the research roadmap for the AppDev unit.
  • Define, scope, plan, and conduct user experience research. Based on research priorities, you define the scope and research questions, select the appropriate method(s), and create a plan for your research. You align on participant recruitment criteria with your stakeholders and the Research Operations Specialist. When conducting research, you always try to include others: you invite stakeholders to observe fieldwork, or empower others to do research.
