Job Description

IMPORTANT NOTE: This is a remote position for four months. Applicants must be willing to travel to The Netherlands and/or to Germany as needed.

Organization profile

Every year, millions of people around the world go missing as a result of conflict, human rights abuses, disasters, organized crime, irregular migration, and other causes. This is a complex global challenge that can be tackled effectively through cross-cutting programs that address a variety of difficult, interconnected issues.

The International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP) is the only international organization tasked exclusively to work on the issue of missing persons. It works with governments and other stakeholders, including families of the missing, to help them develop and maintain successful missing persons processes. To learn more about ICMP click here.

Under the supervision of the Head of Data Coordination Division, the Temporary Project Officer(s) main duties and responsibilities will include the following:

  • Provide support to the Head of Data Coordination Division in preparation of reference collection campaigns
  • Organize, support and monitor data and reference collection campaigns in one or more EU countries
  • Ensure staff are properly trained in iDMS data processing as well as reference sample collection and handling according to ICMP policies
  • Responsible for the reference samples collected to ensure proper transfer to the processing laboratory in accordance with ICMP policies
  • Prepare relevant internal and external reports on data and reference collection campaigns
  • Other related duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Post Secondary, Social Sciences, Business Management or related discipline
  • At least 5-7 years of experience related to data collection
  • Proven experience in project management and administration
  • Experience in organizing and conducting data and DNA reference collection campaigns
  • Proven experience in the design and delivery of capacity building, training and mentoring
  • Experience in documentation of human rights violations or working directly with the victims
  • Demonstrable conceptual, analytical, documentation and presentation skills, including report writing

Mandatory Requirements

  • Professional fluency in written and spoken English
  • Knowledge of German or Dutch desirable; Knowledge of Arabic or Kurdish is an asset
  • Excellent communication, personal organization and leadership skills
  • In-depth understanding of the conflicts in Iraq and Syria
  • Prior working experience on relevant missing persons issues
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications, including Word, Excel and Power Point
  • Proven ability to interact positively with colleagues regardless of culture, nationality or gender
  • Ability to travel at short notice and to work flexible hours including weekends and evenings
  • Commitment and passion to the underlying objective of helping the authorities and families of the missing to account for missing persons in an impartial and transparent manner
  • Willingness and ability to travel in Germany and Netherlands and to work flexible hours including weekends and evenings, when necessary

Benefits

This is a remote position available to candidates based in Europe, under a four months contract, with a competitive base salary at the TOS 6, level 1 on the ICMP Technical and Operational Salary scale.. Expected contract dates: 01 May 2021 - 31 August 2021
