Job Description

Dawn Aerospace is recruiting a highly motivated and quick-learning Workshop Manager / Technician to join our team in Delft. This is a fantastic opportunity to join an exciting, fast-growing company in the space industry. Dawn Aerospace is high-tech company with a global team of ~80 people, is developing world leading reusable launch vehicles and space components across multiple sites in the world.

Your domain is the Dawn Aerospace workshop facility in Delft, Netherlands. It hosts end-to-end composite production and assembly, space technology assembly and test work, a variety of cleanroom activities, as well as dynamically changing specialized scientific setups.

You are a skilled and experienced technician who knows how an efficient workshop is set up and who continually wants to make things better.

You will work with our engineering teams and support them in executing their production, test or assembly tasks.

You are responsible for the availability of workshop facilities, their maintenance, upgrades and improvements.

You will be given ownership of goals from start-to-finish. You must have the ability and desire to work in a young company. If you want a narrow, thoroughly defined, smooth and routine role, this is not for you. We believe in giving you the tools you need, then getting out of your way.

Responsibilities/activities will include the following:
  • Take ownership of availability and utility of all tools and consumables in the workshop.
  • Support and advise project teams with manufacturing activities.
  • Support and advise project teams with assembly activities.
  • Support and advise management to maintain work safety.
  • Maintain orderly conduct in the workshop by all users.
  • Manage demand for new tools and capabilities and work with management to implement these new capabilities.
  • Harmonize workshop to improve productivity.
  • Continually improve and expand workshop capabilities in support of the company mission.

Requirements

  • 10 years + of manufacturing/fabrication experience in the fields of machining, assembly or composites.
  • Experience in a shared workshop space dealing with changing use cases.
  • MBO or HBO level education in a relevant field.
  • Language skills: Dutch, English.
Desired skills and experience:
  • experience in managing and supporting workshop users
  • broad experience in a variety of workshop and fabrication activities such as
    • machining (lathe, mill, CNC)
    • composite manufacturing
    • welding
    • machine maintenance
    • assembly work
  • Experience working in clean room environments
  • Experience in handling pressurised systems such as gas cylinders
  • Knowledge in handling hazardous materials in workshop environments
  • Knowledge/Experience with lean manufacturing, TPM, 5 sigma
  • Experience in the use of CAD software (Solidworks preferred)
  • General skills attributed to workplace safety
