We at CoolGames are looking for a Junior Backend Developer to join our team in the heart of Amsterdam. You’ll work with a multinational team of developers taking on the challenge to develop dynamic gaming experiences.

Requirements
What you bring to the table as a Backend Developer
As a Backend Developer, you will design and develop secure and scalable backend solutions for our games that are played by millions around the world. You will be responsible for maintaining and improving our live game backends, ensuring quality and resilience. Our backend tech stack consists of TypeScript, Go and Nakama, while also making use of Docker, Protobuf, Ansible, and AWS. You will additionally collaborate with game developers and QA from time to time to help build excellent games for our players, continuously improving and expanding existing solutions, and integrating new approaches that support the requirements of your game developers.
To summarize, we’re looking for someone that:
- Has expertise or interest in building APIs and/or backend solutions and services;
- Has a good understanding of network protocols like TCP, HTTP, and WebSocket;
- Has a good knowledge of databases and good design practices;
- Is comfortable with or willing to integrate into agile development processes and tools;
- Has experience or interest in continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD);
- Has some experience or interest in test driven development;
- Believes in owning tasks but solving them as a team;
- Has a passion for Game Development!
We’re expecting you to have:
- You have a completed relevant HBO or WO education, or equivalent education or experience;
- Understanding of code versioning tools such as Git;
- At least 1 year of experience developing backends;
- A very high willingness to learn;
- A good understanding of sound programming practices;
- A very good algorithmic mindset;
- A flexible and goal-oriented attitude;
- Proficiency in English.
Furthermore, it would be great if you had:
- Up to 3 years of professional experience developing and maintaining backends, ideally for games;
- Experience with Go and TypeScript, or experience with Java or C++;
- Experience with game backends;
- Experience with cloud platforms / infrastructure;
- Experience with the Nakama framework, which would be a big plus.
